Normally in February, we think of matters of the heart, but at HMS we think of matters of the mind. Why you may ask? February means there are only two short months until Milestone testing and MAP, our benchmark, is conducted during this time. What can you do to help your learner prepare? Take a look at your learner's progress report. Is he/she struggling in a certain class? Are they attending SIEP? Does your child qualify for Title I? Does he/she study at home? Online help is available to families of Georgia learners. One such site allows learners to experience the Milestone. By going to Georgia's Department of Education Experience Online Testing, your learner can see how the test is prior to taking. Another web resource is Accuteach. This site offers a variety of practice resources. Share your concerns and questions here during the month of February so we can help you and your learner with Matters of the Mind.
With a new year comes new resolutions and changes as we set new goals. HMS is no different. It is time for change so we have set the goals to begin pod rotations as discussed in our previous post, adding more rigor to assignments and assessments so our learners are college and career ready, and allowing our learners more voice and choice in how they learn and demonstrate that learning. As with all goals, sometimes you reach them quickly, other times they fall by the wayside, and yet others are modified as we may have to take a detour here or there. HMS would like to hear about the educational goals set by you and your learner for this semester. Why did you choose these goals? Do you have a plan for reaching them? What do you do if something doesn't quite work out the way you planned?
